Cushions & Quilts that Colour My World
Three beautiful little people that really add life, love & colour into my world are Jakob, Stella & Joshua. My nephews & niece are 3 of my favourite people in the world.....
......so for christmas last year I made them these pixel-inspired floor cushions......
Each cushion measured 85cms square with a 20cm gusset and uses a range of plain colours in 5 tones
I took my inspiration from a range of cushions I had seen in Vogue Living magazine and modified them to suit my application.... The children love them because they are large and when we sit and play games or watch movies they are really comfortable as the inserts are thick and buoyant.
I used the striped fabric shown above for the bottom of each cushion because it's a sturdy upholstery weight fabric that will take the wear and tear.
When Shelby got engaged and started planning her wedding, she decided she would like to make a wedding quilt. Shelby liked the design Little Leaves from the book "The Practical Guide to Patchwork".
Changing the design slightly Shelby turned the leaves into hearts to fit her love theme...... Lovely!
The quilt that Shelby has made is a show stopper and many customers who came into Materialise whilst it was being made absolutely loved it!!
Shelby used the quilt at her wedding as the back drop for her photos. Yummy....
Shelby opted to make blue/green heart squares alternating them with pink/red heart squares. Blue for boys and pink for girls. We then opted to change the pattern again and added sashing in a range of colours that Shelby has used for her hearts. I think the sashing ties the quilt together beautifully.
Shelby appliqued the hearts onto an ivory sateen background using her machine. She also pieced a skinny border in all the colours before adding an the 8 inch border in the sateen.
We completed the quilt by adding a free motion quilting design that worked to compliment the hearts
CONGRATULATIONS Ben & Shelby....... Wishing you a long & loving life together!
Recently Jo found this beautiful vintage chest to use as a toy box for her grandchildren and wanted to re-upholster the top in a fresh fun way, after having the box sanded back to its original state....
we pieced the fabrics in a relaxed way then quilted the piece with cotton wadding and a backing for durability before upholstering to the top of the box.
The lovely fresh retro selection of fabrics give this old pine box a new lease of life!
Nevenka made this fun Dinosaur inspired strippy strip for her new little nephew in Melbourne
Lizzet has really shown that she knows what's what when it comes to putting colours together with this beautiful colour wheel quilt......
And again with this quilt Lizzet puts a very groovy retro selection of fabrics & colours together
Lizzet followed the pattern Small Plates from the book "The Practical Guide to Patchwork"
Lizzet also combined these fun colours & made this fresh cushion as a gift for a little friend
Incorporating this handy pocket in the back trimmed with the matching red sateen spot
Lizzet has beautifully quilted this aqua sateen spot using quilt lite as a filler.
Lizzet also made this stunning large European size floral cushion for her own couch using a fabric by Joel Dewberry
Lucy made this Liberty quilt for a friend who recently gave birth to a little boy Rhys.... Lucy constructed the quilt using 2 inch squares in a combination of blues and greys. Lucy finished the quilt by adding a grey sateen plain for a wide border and personalized the quilt by adding Rhys' initials in applique.
Sallee wanted to make a very special quilt to celebrate her daughter's 40th birthday so she used all the clothes she had made for her daughter as a young girl and combined them to make this fabulous boho quilt
The pieces are so so tiny some here measure only half an inch. I just love the vintage look of this quilt!
Wedding quilts have been a bit of a theme at Materialise lately. Lorraine made this stunning Asian inspired boho quilt for her youngest son who recently married.
Using the lovely selection of Japanese fabrics available at Materialise Lorraine pieced this large king sized quilt as a special gift for their wedding present...... It is a Masterpiece Lorraine you should be so proud.
