Rain, Rain, Go Away! Please

Lately the rain has been a bit of a pain and caused some flooding in our lil' shop
Inspired by the new Cotton & Steel fabric ranges I decided I should make this quilt asking the Rain to Go Away. I am really happy wit the way it turned out especially the Yuwa stripe I used for binding, it adds a real sense of fun and carnivale
I love these cute girls and the cloud quilting detail adds to their story
clouds and birds

I love the cartoon vibe here
This is the back of the quilt
I used the Nani Iro double gauze combined wit some fabrics from the front. This calico coloured tone on tone spot is so handy. Available in the store now

Japanese Windmills

A couple of blogs ago I posted some pics of these gorgeous Japanese fabrics that had arrived into the store.....
This week I put together this busy quilt top
Selecting three tonal elements... Background, dark windmill blades and windmill centres
The method is as simple as string piecing then cutting 45 degree angles
The result was these Japanese Windmills which is a bit of a departure from my normal improv style quilts... However I enjoy the combination of colours and the movement that this design creates....

New Cotton and Steel Fabrics

we have got a great selection of New Cotton and Steel fabrics in the store
Including this subtle yet fun collection.
This selection are mostly from a range called 'Measure twice cut once'
I drew inspiration from this simplicity pieced cot quilt circa 1900. Altering the borders so as to create a more modern feel

These Liberty Classics arrived this week
Plus we have a really good selection of hard to find rare Liberty designs
Including these great colours
This red one is my fave pick... the colour and sheen on this cloth is Alive

Rose Garden Quilt Kit

This beautiful quilt has received a lot of attention from customers visiting the store.
The Rose Garden quilt as it is called is now finished and we have kits with the exact same fabrics seen here.
The quilt is combination of Yuwa and Liberty fabrics and is a simple strippy quilt with a boho border.
This is the back view showing how we have used some of the boho piecing from the front to make our backing larger. The free motion quilting is a simple flower design and makes the quilt soft and relaxed by not being over quilted.
The latest instalment from the Cotton & Steel Collective is now available in store. There are some great prints in this new range including some really cool double gauze fabrics.
We have a whole new range of double gauze wraps and facecloths in stock as well, including Cotton & Steel gauze
Here we show you the ever popular apple print that makes the perfect gift for those looking for gender neutral...

Pretty New Trims and Things at Materialise

Excited and inspired by the latest selection of Liberties we have in the store, this fresh quilt top emerged this week using a sweet selection of prints from the new children's collection 'The Garden of Dreams'....
We've had a lovely selection of fresh and fun new trims arrive this week. Including this ostrich feather.....
When I saw these feathers I immediately wanted to trim a simple singlet like this for my little Liberty girl..... (She is def no angel but she might look like one wearing a singlet like this!)
It can easily be made as a detachable piece that simply gets removed when it is time to throw this cotton singlet into the wash.....

Pretty cotton lace is something I get continually asked for, so here it is. This lace is super wide and would make a divine skirt. It measures 33cms (13 inches) from top to bottom.
In addition this delicious piece of lace is 3 inches wide and would make a great trim for a skirt.
I am looking forward to using this lovely daisy chain trim combined with a simple gingham check in a smock top or dress for my little girl.
This embroidered cotton ribbon is about 3.5 inches wide and would make a great yoke in a gathered skirt or in a smock top too.
I couldn't resist this bling! It's iron on and for all of you making tiara's for dress ups this would make a simple and very effective addition for your little princess.
An essential item in my wardrobe is a 3 inch wide black low slung elasticated belt. I have just managed to find this decorative elastic and these black matt finish belt buckles which I'm really excited about.....
Come in and see us today as we are open on Saturday over the Easter weekend.....
