Check out these hot frocks.....!!!
Janine and I got quite excited on Saturday when we put together these cute little numbers with some of the newest fabrics in store now at Materialise
This 100% cotton voile cammo-esk style print was our pick for the day....
We also really liked this more colourful floral number (also cotton voile)
Now this frock is Hot!!!
This svelte cotton/silk fabric drapes like a waterfall & feels truly aMazing!........
Also New is this exciting printed linen! We think this cool city scape would make a very cute tunic dress to wear over tights...
Now Available! A beautiful new 100% linen in a nice subtle range of colours. We also have a beautiful italian linen in white, 2 new swiss voile's and some fine japanese shirtings.....!Yum
Not so long ago Lucy girl was in town on a short stop over between Paris & London and she wanted to make a doona cover and pillowcase to match. Inspired by some Liberty fabrics purchased on her travels Lucy added some new bits from Materialise and came up with these little gems...
We incorporated a lovely fine crisp cotton sateen with our liberty tana lawn fabrics and constructed a single bed doona cover with a 15cm flange pieced in Liberty. Lucy individually covered 38mm buttons using 10 different Liberty prints.
These buttons were for decoration only because we used large 19mm press studs as closures. However the buttons provide a lovely softness and say "I'm a one off handmade beautiful thing"!
Lucy chose a rich french navy sateen as the backing for both pieces and also piped her european pillowcase in the same sateen.
We also have these 5inch Liberty charm squares - precut for you to make into a quilt top.
Emily used an array of our japanese indigo's and also cut up a indigo shibori scarf she had always loved but never really worn....
This is Emily's first quilt which she made for her beloved boyfriend. Emily tied the quilt together with this japanese print which she added as an 8 inch border increasing the effect by mitring the corners.
Christel made this very stylish quilt for her daughter out of a beautifully toned selection of japanese fabrics.
Christel's colour selection was elegantly fine tuned and the overall effect was harmonious.
And another Emily made this very cute apple apron using a sturdy nail head canvas....
Expecting mum Nicky made our Novelty Sqr'd quilt for her new & 3rd little boy Matthew.....
"I can't wait to meet him."
Margaret made this simply stunning Kaffe Fassett snowball quilt
Margaret has fussy cut her centres from the floral prints used above & then teamed it with one of Kaffe's spots to make this beautifully colour balanced masterpiece...

I just love this Quilt! Made by Jean for her first grandchild (this is her first quilt!) Like most new grand mums Jean wanted to make a quilt and upon request from her son for a quilt pertaining to "Heavy Machinery" she made this naive style applique quilt that is beautifully balanced & crafted. Jean clearly has an eye for design and made this amazing discovery herself.
Jean brought a patchwork and quilting magazine into the shop and showed me a picture she liked with a selection of inspiring colours and asked me to help her select some colours. Together we made a selection of fabrics.
Jean made drawings for each piece of machinery (her husband drew the tug boat) then she cut the shapes for each vehicle and stitched each into place by hand. Here is the outcome.
This takes my breath away!!! Seriously this is so cool, I just LOVE it!
This 'R' is for Resa. This is another 'first' made this time by Liana who came into Materialise with her friend Tracey. They have both learnt in sessions with me to cut and sew 6 inch square patchwork quilts from scratch including rotary cutting, pieceing techniques and freemotion quilting.
This strip that says 'Resa's' is part of the boho border Liana has made using the extra pieces left over from her squares. Liana has an excellent eye for colour. I feel the colour choices she has made for her quilt are truly excellent.
I talk about living vicariously through my customers but I have to say that this one totally takes the cake!!!
Stacey has built and is currently decorating her new home and wanted a few stand out key pieces that she had seen in magazines. She came in to see us at Materialise & using this luxe fabric from Designers Guild together we have pieced & crafted a bespoke lampshade. We are still working on this project so keep an eye out for the finished product soon.....
A short time ago Claire purchased one of our Oriental Boho Quilt kits. Claire made this colour fresh boho quilt adding a touch of pink to rev it up a little
Claire attended a couple of sessions at Materialise to put her on the boho track
There are a lot of new & exciting things at Materialise.........drum roll!
Many people will be happy to know that this highly sought after patchwork skirt pattern that many have admired in these cute fabrics is back in stock!. YES! We finally have the pattern back in stock so if you have been wanting one, now is the time to come in and grab it because they won't hang around.
In and around the background of the picture above is a small selection of the new fabrics that have just arrived at Materialise.
Also in stock now are these Geisha panels - above (I really love the colour combinations they have used here: they are so so fresh) and Alphabet Letters by Moda (below) which have a true vintage feel. In a continuing effort to stay alive and Materialise my life I decided to part with them. So I cut up these amazing fabrics that have been in my stash for over 5 years and am happy to see them go to a happy home.
Goodluck Girls & Boys!
Also new at Materialise are these beautiful new fabrics for boys! Yes Boys. For all those that have been asking for a good stripe or check in blue or red or green and the rest. They are not spots. (Well some are - but that's only because they don't make very many cool stripes and checks, so you wouldn't want to buy them anyways) Above is a Kewl Boys print that has three co-ordinating colored checks. I really really like them & feel a quilt coming on!
Above is a continuation of the boy story I am working to build! I really love these! And Who Wouldn't??
Back by popular demand is 'Bite Me' & the large red quarter dot. The multi strip in the middle is new but won't last. I can already tell.
And only because these colours are just so fine. I had to offer these cotton sateen spots with the most beautiful lustre on the surface of the cloth. There is a chocolate with a blue spot that is so edible. All the colours in this range are very useable and very clear.

or is it?
No it's PotatoHead in (guess where anyone??????)
Yep you got it! Bali
Still it looked like a patchwork quilt to me and clearly was the inspiration for the colours in my lastest Novelty Squared Quilt. Shown at the end of this post
Just before I went away one of my long standing and clearly very talented clients Di came to Materialise and took my breath away with this truely magnificient and masterful piece of workmanship.
Wow..... I Love It! Such a Labour of Love. I can see in every stitch how much Di is enjoying making this truely remarkable heirloom.
Sue made her 2nd grand daughter this fresh and fun loving quilt
Sue was a bit nervous and not really sure how she would go conquering my Boho design from the pattern, without a lesson....
I think we can all clearly see that Sue has nailed it to the floor! I Love It! It's so fresh and fun & just what a lil' baby girl needs
Lindsey another quilt mistress who not only makes many amazing quilts, but also an exciting array of softies, cute & very covetable bibs (so I hear on the grapevine from those who receive them ) and cute little clothes for her grand children and their friends.
Lindsey recently made two amazing quilts: one boy & one girl quilt in preparation for a new baby arriving soon. Both quilts had an accent on grey and were simply stylish and yummmmmmmm!
The quilt above was a beautiful wash of colours with a subtle wash of light pink and this little birdy that
was so happy soaring above the clouds so high!
This cute little owl was very busy hitting that ball and busting some moves as a tennis pro!
It wasn't until I loaded these photos up all together onto my blog that I realized where my 'one tracked mind' colour brief had come from.......
Clearly this Retro, Boho come Collesseum style Shack has had some kind of influence on my physchi
CrazZeEeee but CooL!
My quilt 'Novelty Squared' (shown above) is an old but new quilt now available in my "It's So Me!" pattern series for u to make at home..... In an attempt to lure you into the store (and away from ordering fabrics online from the US) I have made up some unique 6inch Novelty Square sets with fabrics that you as customers have been asking for that I had in my stash. Be quick as they are not available online anywhere, only at Materialise Now!
Here is a small selection of the fabrics I have put into the store..........
My nephew Joshie will peak "Look aunty Soph it's Cars doin' burnouts..........that's so cool"
(clearly my fave)
King of the Jungle.... Naturally
The colours in this print are many & offer lots of scope in this quilt!
So retro, so fun, just had to
